Reduce PDF file size without losing the layout
A PDF that is too heavy to email is almost always a scan: every page carries a full-resolution photo. Compression here rebuilds those pages at a sane resolution, so a 20 MB scanned contract usually lands somewhere between 1 and 3 MB while the layout, the page order and the page size stay exactly as they were.
The Light level is different: it only rewrites the file structure, keeping the text selectable and links clickable. Use it when the PDF must stay searchable, and one of the stronger levels when the priority is fitting an attachment limit.

How much smaller does the PDF get?
It depends on the file. Scans and image-heavy documents often drop by 60–90%; a PDF that is mostly text is already compact, so the gain is smaller.
Does compression ruin the quality?
Light compression changes nothing visible. Recommended rebuilds the pages at 150 DPI, which stays crisp on screen and in print; Maximum trades some sharpness for the smallest file.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
